چکیده

The degradation due to high friction, wear, and corrosion of mechanical components for industrial applications has invoked substantial economic loss. In recent years, scientists engineers have developed techniques mitigate the issues associated with this deterioration potentially. Among these techniques, controlling coefficient friction (COF), wear rate, using laser shock peening (LSP) is a preeminent popular innovation. This paper aims summarize existing literature on LSP steels, discuss current state-of-the-art LSP, demonstrate mechanisms that dictate enhanced tribological properties. More specifically, influence COF, potential, surface hardening, morphological changes various materials used aerospace, automotive, biomedical, nuclear, chemical explained. addition, grain refinement gradient microstructure formation during are discussed. Additionally, advances elucidated.

Microstructural Characterization of Carburized Steels

*Member of ASM International arburizing has been a popular method for obtaining a unique balance of properties in steels for many years. Steels with low carbon contents are characterized by good toughness and good ductility, but low strength and low wear resistance. By locally increasing the carbon content at the surface, followed by heat treatment to produce a very high hardness in this layer ...

Fourier analysis of X-ray micro-diffraction profiles to characterize laser shock peened metals

X-ray micro-diffraction profiles using a synchrotron light source were analyzed via Fourier transformation for single crystal Aluminum and Copper samples subjected to micro-scale laser shock peening. Specifically, the asymmetric and broadened diffraction profiles registered across the shock peen region were observed and analyzed by classic Warren and Averbach (W–A) method [Warren, B.E., Averbac...

Corrosion and microstructural analysis data for AISI 316L and AISI 347H stainless steels after exposure to a supercritical water environment.

This article presents corrosion data and microstructural analysis data of austenitic stainless steels AISI 316L and AISI 347H exposed to supercritical water (25 MPa, 550 °C) with 2000 ppb of dissolved oxygen. The corrosion tests lasted a total of 1200 h but were interrupted at 600 h to allow measurements to be made. The microstructural data have been collected in the grain interior and at grain...

Effect of Gas Ratio on Tribological and Corrosion Properties of Ion Beam Sputter Deposited TiN Coatings

Titanium nitride thin films were grown on 304 stainless steel substrates at various nitrogen/argon flow ratios by ion beam sputtering (IBS) technique. The current research is a follow up study on the influence of gas ratio on structural and corrosion properties in the TiN coated 304 stainless steel. Film structural identification of phases was performed using X-ray diffractometry (XRD). Sca...
